GOLDEN
KEY INTERNATIONAL HONOUR SOCIETY UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO CHAPTER |
|
Better World BooksDear Members, University of Toronto Students and Faculty, Golden Key International Honour Society at the University of Toronto is running a campus book drive to benefit Books for Africa and would like to ask all of you for your support. You can help support this book drive by simply donating those college books that the bookstore is not buying back and you no longer want. While these books may have no value to you, they are of great value to those individuals in Africa that do not have access to any books or written materials. In some areas, books are so scarce that one book is shared between 10 children and many universities lack the books necessary to support their curriculum. By simply donating your unwanted college books you can help to support literacy and education in Africa, a key element of social development and personal empowerment. We have set up a number of collection boxes around campus at St. George and UTM. You can donate your books at: St. George: Pharmacy Building Lobby UTM: Textbooks at UTSC can be donated through the Association of Biology and Chemistry Students. We are looking to collect relatively new academic books that would be used in a college classroom. The only books we are not able to accept are academic journals, mass-market paperbacks, encyclopedias, children's books, books with a copyright date older than 1998, and damaged books (markings and a bit of wear and tear are fine). Books for Africa is the world's largest shipper of donated books to the African continent. Books for Africa's objective is simple; to collect and ship books to Africa to be utilized by schools and libraries. Since 1988 Books for Africa has shipped over 13 million books to hundreds of schools, libraries, and bookstores throughout twenty six African countries. To run this book drive we are working with a partner of Books for Africa, Better World Books. Better World Books is an organization that specializes in running campus book drives and utilizing the value of used college books to support non-profit literacy initiatives world wide. All books collected to benefit Books for Africa will be sent directly to Books for Africa or sold online. When a book is sold online, 100% of the profits after covering all costs will go to support Books for Africa. To date, Better World Books has sent Books for Africa more than 425,000 books and has generated over $900,000 to support their mission. Thank you in advance for your support. Sincerely, Golden Key International Honour Society
